The Defense Case
The Defense did not put on much of a case. Richard Webb testified for the Defense, stating that he knew Joe Wilkes from working at a skating rink with him. He testified that he saw Joe Wilkes on May 13, 1999 purchase a knife at Wal-Mart. He knows the date because he was at Wal-Mart purchasing his fishing license on that same date and the license had the date on it. He remembered that the brand of the knife that Joe bought that day was Shrade. He also testified that the police never interviewed him, but knew Joe gave his name as seeing him at the store. Additionally there was testimony regarding Yvonne and David’s relationship and that they got along well with one another.
